Menopause is defined as a single day--12 months after your last period. The majority of women experience their most severe symptoms in the months to years leading up to this milestone. The RejuvinAge approach is to medically treat symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, mental fogginess, and bone loss as soon as they appear.  Our approach is to keep the transition smooth from normal cycling through menopause.

Until recently the data suggested the lowest dose for the shortest amount of time. The newest data suggests individualizing hormone therapy. There are women who need hormones for years. There are also women who choose to not stop hormone replacement therapy. In every patient indication, age, menopause and risk factors should be considered.

The three components of successful hormone replacement therapy are:

• Appropriate Dosing
• Appropriate Routes of Administration
• Appropriate Duration of treatment based on each individual patient

In general, the body tends to restore hormones to pre-treatment levels after cessation of treatment. If your own hormone production was low before treatment, it will most likely return to the same levels after treatment.

For your Program Appointment, you will be required to come to our Virginia Beach clinic. Subsequent consultations may be conducted over the telephone if distance presents a problem. An annual in office visit is required.

Saliva testing may be accurate for hormones that circulate in high concentrations, such as progesterone but not all hormones can be accurately assessed using saliva. Since we require blood testing for each consultation, there is no need to collect saliva samples as well. All of the hormones we assess are accurately measured using the blood samples.

RejuvinAge does not offer pellet implant therapy and instead provides individualized BHRT programs.

Hormones are self-administered usually on a daily basis for approved indications.  Individualizing Hormone Therapy includes prescribing the appropriate dosages, the appropriate route of administration for the appropriate duration for each patient.

Bioidentical hormones are compounds that have exactly the same chemical and molecular structure as hormones that are produced in the human body. Most bio identical hormones are made from soy or wild yams which contain compounds that are chemically processed and made into identical replicas of hormones produced by the body. Bioidentical hormones are prescription medicines and should not be confused with over the counter formulations of creams and supplements.

Side-effects are often minimal and manageable when restoring hormones. Complete side effect information is included in all prescription packaging.

Compounding (also pharmaceutical compounding and compounding pharmacy) is the mixing of drugs by a compounding pharmacist to develop medication or supplements for the unique needs of an individual  patient. Compounding Pharmacies provide customized dosages and delivery methods.

We are better able to manage your hormone levels with precise accuracy if all medications come from the same pharmacy. Every treatment regimen is tailored to the individual based on the results of blood tests, symptoms, medical history and a physical exam.

Program Fees: The fee for an initial consultation is $195.00. The fee for the each program is detailed in our program pricing.

Lab tests: The cost of initial lab testing is detailed in the program options. Patients will typically need 2-4 follow-up lab tests the first year and then annual lab work once hormone levels are optimized.

Hormone Prescriptions: This cost is in addition to all other fees.

The focus of our program is restoring hormones to optimal levels. Therefore our practice does not accept or participate in insurance programs. We consider Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy an elective. We optimize hormone levels based on exact lab results and do not treat actual illness or disease. We do not accept assignments or participate in insurance plans.  In keeping with a free enterprise philosophy, our policy regarding insurance has always been that we choose to work directly with our patients rather than through an insurance company.  We have opted out of the Medicare Program and are only able to see Medicare eligible patients who first elect to pay in full for all services rendered and subsequently sign a Medicare Waiver, an agreement not to seek reimbursement from Medicare for medical care received at our office.

We are not able to furnish information or answer questions for insurance companies. In keeping with our philosophy, patients are afforded the luxury of treatment without the interference of insurance companies. Our focus is the premier care we provide.

RejuvinAge offers customized lab panels which have been negotiated through LabCorp. These lab panels offer discounted pricing and are not eligible to be filed through insurance.  Because we do not treat illness or disease, we cannot provide diagnosis codes for lab testing.

Many employers offer a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to their employees. These arrangements permit the employee to stow a portion of their pre-tax earnings in a special account for use on health-related expenses NOT covered by primary health insurance. Depending on the type of FSA, these arrangements may cover the portion of your treatment. Ask your employer or visit the IRS FSA website.

The answer to the question of whether to cycle or not to cycle when undergoing Hormone Replacement Therapy  is specific to each woman. It also entails a long discussion of the evidence for and against this treatment modality. Briefly, our current interpretation of available data is that while cycling may turn out to have benefits there is not enough clinical trial data to mandate it for all patients.
